“Gladbeck. The exhibition “I feel you” with paintings by Berlin artist Miriam Vlaming will be on display in Gladbeck from June 13. What visitors can expect.

“I feel you” is the title of the exhibition, which opens on Friday, June 13, at the Neue Galerie Gladbeck. On display are works by the artist Miriam Vlaming. And the exhibition in Gladbeck, which follows the highly acclaimed photo exhibition “Membrane”, has something special to offer.

The Neue Galerie Gladbeck can show a special picture by Miriam Vlaming

Miriam Vlaming has painted a picture especially for “I feel you”. One in which, one might think, the paint is perhaps not even completely dry yet. It was only finished a few days before the opening. So it had never been on display anywhere before. This special work welcomes visitors to the exhibition right at the entrance to the gallery’s exhibition space.

The artist Miriam Vlaming, born in Düsseldorf in 1971, now lives and works in Berlin. After studying educational science, she studied painting and graphic art under Prof. Arno Rink and Neo Rauch at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig from 1994 to 1999, where she completed her studies in 2001 with a diploma with distinction and a master’s degree under Prof. Arno Rink. Vlaming is one of the most important female representatives of the New Leipzig School.

Vlaming’s works are about the symbiosis of man and nature

From the very beginning, the artist has dealt with the symbiosis of man and nature in her paintings. Very often Miriam Vlaming allows her figures to disappear into their environment or emerge from it. This gives her works an almost ghostly quality.

On display in Gladbeck are works in which the past, the present and collective memories overlap. Vlaming paints with self-made egg tempera paints. Her paintings are often based on old photographs, which she uses as a starting point for her works, alienates, paints over or incorporates. On display at the Neue Galerie Gladbeck are paintings that come from private collections of art lovers. It is therefore once again a special look at the artist’s work.

Works have a strong socio-political resonance

Although Miriam Vlaming never consciously works politically, this exhibition in particular shows how strongly her works can resonate with society, according to Gerd Weggel from the Neue Galerie Gladbeck. He curated the exhibition. According to Weggel, “I feel you” offers the opportunity to discover one of the most important artists in contemporary German painting. Vlaming’s paintings are shown internationally.
